Our community impact

Creating a sustainable future, helping ensure a safe and plentiful food supply, and working to ensure vibrant communities

The health and vitality of the communities we live and work in is the foundation of who we are at Land O’Lakes, Inc. As a farmer- and retailer-owned cooperative whose network touches half the harvested acres in the U.S., our success is inextricably linked to the success of those who produce our food.
We care deeply about lifting up our member-owners and advocating for rural communities. Our efforts are focused in areas where we can have the most impact -- strengthening our role as a leader in sustainable production and building on the practices that farmers and our member-owners have been implementing for generations.

With that, we are pleased to share our 2022 Community Impact Report, which highlights the progress we’ve made across our business toward achieving our 14 enterprise goals—including donating three million pounds of in-kind products by 2030; using 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable consumer packaging by 2030; and increasing water usage efficiency in our operations by 15% by 2030.
As one of the nation’s largest co-ops, we are committed to using our leadership position to build a sustainable future, safe and reliable food supply, and vibrant communities where our employees, members, customers and consumers live and work.

Here are just a few highlights from this year’s report:

  • Received approval on our greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative, validating that we’re on the right track to reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Sequestered 262,000 metric tons of carbon (and returning $5.1 million to farmers) in the second year of our Truterra carbon program, earning recognition as one of Fast Company’s 2023 World Changing Ideas.

  • Launched our first American Connection Community, expanding our efforts to improve broadband access and digital literacy to help close the digital divide in rural America.

  • Contributed a total of $10.1 million to nonprofits, higher education institutions and community organizations; supporting a culture of giving that’s been the cornerstone of our cooperative since 1921.
