What we're doing

FOR TODAY—AND TOMORROW

Building strong communities, creating enduring livelihoods and being effective stewards of our natural resources—these commitments are as important to us as top-quality products and services. The long view is part of our DNA. We’re working in communities around the globe to grow more food with less, foster new ideas and talent, and preserve our communities and the planet for future generations.

At the heart of our identity is the idea of working together for the common good—today and for future generations. That’s why, each year, Land O’Lakes, Inc. donates a portion of its pretax profits to the Land O’Lakes Foundation. Through programs like Member Co-op Match, Matching Gifts to Education and the annual United Way campaign, the Foundation is fulfilling its mission to serve the many communities where our members and employees live and work. Together, we are fighting hunger, supporting education and strengthening communities.

In 1981, a group of farmers gathered in a Minnesota board room of Land O’Lakes, Inc. to discuss a bold idea: international development. As members of a cooperative dating back to 1921, these farmers knew from experience that uniting to improve agriculture can lead to healthier communities and stronger economies. They also understood that food security and economic prosperity are good for all—for business ventures, for trade and for a more secure world. This is how the nonprofit Land O’Lakes Venture37 (formerly Land O’Lakes International Development) got its start.

When we formed our co-op in 1921, our farmers believed in preserving our natural resources. It's a commitment we're proud to continue throughout Land O'Lakes' farm-to-fork businesses. Land O’Lakes SUSTAIN™ takes our unique view of the food and agriculture industries, and our farmer ownership, and aligns our environmental sustainability efforts. These efforts range from on-farm initiatives and public and private partnerships, to sustainable operations at our manufacturing and office locations.
